Tuesday Morning Fun at the Park

Amanda and I headed out with the kids to the splash park this morning. My friend from swimming, Fiona, and her three kids met us there later. Fun was had by all! Edzèa and Haydon discovered the climbing apparatus. It was a bit stressful for me to watch/spot but they were ok. Neve slept or hung out on the blanket for the morning.

Also, I did a nice hack job ie. haircut on Rohan’s hair this morning. I am not a very good hairdresser…that takes talent!

Hot Gardening Monday with Kids

Today we spent the afternoon (after preschool and naps) in the garden/outside. You can see for yourself…Edzèa is a true gardener. She wanted to check on her plants this morning before she left for preschool to see how they were doing and again at lunch when we arrived home. She reminded me that I had promised to buy some blueberry plants when we went to Home Depot next (which happened to be in the morning while Tim returned the rototiller rental). And yesterday she reminded me that we needed sunflower seeds as well. These are pics of gardening in the heat, Neve was in the stroller initially and then later on her playmat inside while the kids went through the sprinkler. Rohan’s favourite thing to do is “water” everything!

Gardening Weekend

I miss my parents!!! They know exactly what to do in a garden. Tim and I are bumbling along trying to do our best. I probably called Dad ten times this weekend with questions. Each time I’ve had a property to garden truly…Dad has been there with me. Mom has helped me with plants/zones and design. Dad has been there for the hard grunt work with me!

Oh well, Tim and I tried to work amidst three children this weekend on the garden. That’s all we did. Well, Rohan went to swimming lessons today and they both had gymnastics yesterday but other than that, it was a gardening weekend. Plus poor Tim was on pager duty so we didn’t get as much done as we would have liked.

We ended up at Home Depot yesterday afternoon because we didn’t really have any gardening tools. Not much use for them in Yellowknife! I have to say, I’m a bit of a menace with the shears. I just went crazy with them. I don’t really know how to prune to make it look pretty so one of our poor lilac bushes had a bit of a hack job done to it.

So, Tim began the weekend with the job of trying to rototill our grub-infested lawn. It didn’t actually happen until this evening due to a rototiller malfunction. So, hopefully, we’ll seed it tomorrow and have some grass growing soon! I’ve added before/after photos.

I spent my time on our back deck area today. Front entrance yesterday although I’m not finished with that. I have way more weeding to do. I was trying to work in the shade today so decided to complete the back before moving to the front later this week.

Before

After

Edzea was actually a good helper. She wants to plant plant plant!! We picked up a couple of strawberry plants for our barrel for the kids.

Our side veggie plot is going to be filled with fun things for the kids to watch grow. All we have in there at present is a raspberry plant. We will pick up some other things this week to put in daily. They picked up seeds for sunflowers while they were renting the rototiller. Edzea found a little brown tree frog in the plot and was very excited.

She doesn’t want to wear the little gloves that I got her because she says she loves the feel of the dirt in her hands. Rohan just wants to get his hands on the rototiller, tractor…anything with a motor. And he likes to water!

Neve was co-operative as usual. She lay in her playpen and cooed or slept most of the time while we were gardening. Thank goodness she’s so easy!!

So poor Tim just came in from finishing with the rototiller and he says his back is really sore! Off to massage him!

Smiley Neve

Neve smiling at herself in the mirror above her playmat. She giggles in the bath now when you wash under her chin on her neck so she’s ticklish there.

Spent the day outside. These are the only pics I have of Rohan and Neve and I at the splash park/playground while Edzea was at school. Rohan had an appropriate shirt on-King of Swings. He LOVES the tire swing and just kept repeating over and over again “I dizzy, I dizzy, I dizzy…giggle giggle”.

Busy Victoria Day Weekend

Fast post. Went out for dinner all three nights this weekend. Birthday party tonight with swimming friends of mine -their little boy, Kian, turned 3. Edzea loves his older sister but was virtually ignored by her the whole time we were there this time as the girl, Gemma, had older friends to play with. Poor Edzea she really wanted to play with Gemma but Gemma was really ignoring her. It was the first time Tim and I ever saw that and Edzea was too reserved to jump in and play with all of the kids. Rohan was in there like a dirty shirt no problem. Anyhow, will write more later. Going to bed as Tim is going away for 3 days tomorrow and I need to get some sleep while I can!

Mother’s Day 2012

This morning the kids and Daddy made me waffles and gave me a lovely card, an orchid and a jewellery set. In the afternoon, Edzèa and I participated in a mother/daughter art class. Neve slept peacefully in her stroller while Edzèa and I did portraits of each other. It was called “Queen for a Day”. It was with her regular art teacher and it was fun to work on seperate canvas together. It was Edzèa’s first official portrait painting. She had her own ideas about the way she was going to do eyes, nose, mouth so in the end, she went free even after she learned “the correct” way. If you look closely you can see my little purple crown on top of my head! It does bear some resemblance to me! It was fun and nice not to be the one coming up with the art idea and cleaning up the mess.

Edzèa's first portrait painting

Then tonight, Tim, put all three kids to bed so I could go out for dinner with Amanda. We had a delicious kid-free dinner at a little restaurant in Stittsville called Louisiannie’s. Delicious salmon and cajun food.

Neve slept 6 hours straight in her basinette last night at 2 months old. She is fine going down awake with her soother in! Yay!

I wonder how Mom’s Mother’s day is going with Bruce tonight? This was our first Mother’s Day apart in 4 years. Boo hoo.

Here are some random pics from this month of the kids:

Froehler’s Sunflower

When Edzèa and I were sick together on Wednesday with Neve and Rohan went to daycare…Edzèa asked me what “fun things” we would be doing that day. Hmmm in between vomiting episodes …let me see…so we did a mini-lesson on Van Gogh’s Sunflowers. She’d been given a HUGE bag of art supplies for her birthday from one of her preschool friends, Abbott so we pulled out the canvas and this was her creation. Someone has already offered us 2 million. It is her Godmother, Helene, but it still counts

Mother’s Day Tea at Edzèa’s Preschool

All of the Mother’s were invited to the preschool for snack time today at Edzèa’s school. Amanda and I did a trade. She looked after Rohan while I went in the morning with Edzèa and I watched Madyson while she went with Haydon in the afternoon. I forgot my camera as usual these days! but luckily one of my other Mom friends took some pictures of Edzèa for me. Although it would have been nicer to have the overall effect. We were ushered in by our daughter/son as we arrived and were shown a place to sit at a small table that was decorated with pink tablecloths and tissue paper flowers. There were big/little chairs to sit mother/child beside each other. Edzèa was beaming. For some reason, she really likes to have me at her school. Neve slept peacefully in her carseat during the hour or so that we were there. Easy baby! Definite Tim spawn this time around thank goodness!

We shared cheese/crackers/canteloupe and then we were given iced tea and shown a big cake that the children had made for us. It had a big heart made with sprinkles in the middle that we were told meant”I love you”. Very sweet. We were all given a piece. After clean-up of the snack were brought our chairs over to circle time. The kids all had roles in a little story/play put on for us. Oh and they also sang “Happy Mother’s Day to You” to the tune of Happy Birthday.

So Edzèa’s role was wind. She had a pinwheel to blow. It was a little story about tulips who were hiding under the soil. The sun needed to shine, rain needed to fall and then wind needed to blow. Eventually the tulips came out once the sun, rain and wind worked together and cooperated. Very cute.

We were then presented with a tulip, a little heart pin that our child had made and a bouquet of handmade tissue paper flowers made by our child. It was a lovely hour and I got a chance to chat with Edzèa’s friend, Arden’s Mom and then later with Hanna and the other Mom who’s child was born the same day as Neve, her little boy’s name is Lucas. She is really friendly and wants to get together sometime. Hanna (Abbott’s Mom) took some pics on her Iphone and emailed them to me and here they are.

Other than that, we’ve had a week of the stomach flu after Edzèa’s big Princess Party. Not fun but we’re through it now and looking forward to Sunday, the Real Mother’s Day. This will be the first time in 4 yrs that we haven’t had Mom with us for it. Amanda, her Mom, Judy, Neve and I are going out for dinner together sans children on Sunday night and the kids are making us brunch on Sunday morning. Amanda and I are taking Edzèa and Haydon to a Mother’s Day art class on Sunday afternoon where the kids will be doing our portraits.

I am going to add a gallery to this website with Edzèa’s art as she is quite prolific and is doing some neat stuff in her art class these days.

The teachers will be sending a group shot of everyone at the Mother’s day tea which I will post when I have it. Bon soir.
