Kindermusic Pics

Here are the pics from today’s Kindermusic class.  They had hand-held mirrors for the little musicians to admire themselves in and “our girl” decided that she was the fairest of them all so she gave herself a few kisses in the mirror.

Tracey and Mackenzie were back. Mackenzie took her first steps towards me in class. So that stopped class for a while as she continued to try her newfound skills out! It was like watching the scarecrow in the Wizard of Oz when he didn’t have any stuffing!

Mom might recognize the other two women in the group. They were two of the nurses (two of the many!) that I had in the hospital. They both have little boys about 3 1/2 months old. Pam and Gillian. We’ve all been going for coffee after Kindermusic and Gillian and I attend the Racquetclub Parent & Tot fitness sessions together. We are going to start playing squash together instead of doing some of the fitness classes. Tim’s happy I’m making nurse friends!

In the afternoon, we went to the Literacy Council’s story/song-time. We were given a little book on baby sign language which was good. We learned some songs to do with the signs.

It looks like Tracey was called about the Family Centre which is great as I would have missed having her there in the afternoons. We are starting our baby-trade again. I am taking Mackenzie on Friday afternoon so that Tracey can take Edzèa on Monday when I teach at K’alemi Dene School in the afternoon.

Tomorrow, we have Parent & Tot fitness then I’m joining a couple of other Mom’s at the pool for family swim.  Edzèa loves the water so it should be fun!

Family Centre Fun

Here are some of the latest pics of  Edzèa playing at our new great place to go. We are now members of the Yellowknife Family Centre which is fantastic! Here are some pics of her playing with my friend, Carolyn’s little boy, Connor and some pics of a BIG South African (read: Dutch) 2 1/2 year old who thought Edzèa was a doll! The picture I didn’t get as I had to run and intervene was the one where the little Dutch girl (Maya) tried to pick Edzèa up in her arms. Gotta run! Going to a movie with another Mommy!

Saturday Morning

Here are some pics from yesterday. Auntie Rita took us for lunch at a grown-up (read: no highchairs) restaurant called Fuego in Yellowknife. Edzèa was not a joy to have lunch with. She wanted to be held the entire time and did not want her own lunch. Once we got to Javaroma later that day. She happily sat in the high chair there with a straw to play with for 45minutes!!! ARGGGHHH!!!

So, although it was nice to see Rita, it wasn’t very relaxing.

We didn’t make it to storytime because of our lunch date with Rita but we went to the Flea Market on Friday afternoon and I found really great cord/Osh Kosh overalls for her for 12mos and up. They were 1$ each so I picked up as many as I could. She has outgrown most of her pants now so I am going into the Alsip and Lindstrom stores at home. The apple outfit she has on is a hand-me-down from the Alsips. It’s very cute.

I’ve decided to look for a couple of babysitters to see if we can go out every once in a while without having to ask friends for favours all the time. My friend Diane Lafferty has a daughter who would like to babysit, she has 4 younger siblings of her own and Rita says she is very experienced. Then there is an older girl who’s Mom works with Tim, we will try her too. Also, I’m considering a couple of girls that I teach at Kalemi Dene as they live in Yellowknife and their full-time teacher recommends them too. So, stay posted.

I can’t wait until Tracey and Markham come home!!! I miss our Baby exchange!

I had to take Edzèa with me to my hair appt on Thursday. Miraculously, it went well.

Ok, gotta run. Birthday party number 2 today and number 3 tomorrow…it never ends!!!

Back Home in the COLD North

hockey-party.jpg

Well, we arrived home last Friday to FRIGID conditions. -41 C and lower. I had forgotten how cold January can be. We went out to the first 1st Birthday party of the year on Saturday. It was a hockey theme. As you can see, Edzèa loved the blow up hockey sticks they had around the room. She was also very popular with the 7-10 yr old age group. She was the youngest baby there and so was treated like royalty …as she expects…

I made an attempt for her to be the Anti-Hockey party girl but she couldn’t resist the sticks!!! She was the only one in a party dress. Everyone else had baby jerseys etc. I’m sure those cost a fair bit!

We made it out on Sunday to the pool where we spent an hour in the water with her and she could happily have lasted longer. We played ball with her in the pool. This is the latest fun thing. We don’t have a ball at home so that is next on the toy list for her! Someone at our Storytime today told me that she had hit a milestone early by passing the ball to me. We’ve been doing this since we were at the Grandparent Froehlers as they had a ball of some sort in her room there and I would play pass on the floor with her after she woke up in the morning. Her Daddy is not surprised that she is a ball girl at all!!!

So we’ve been housebound until today when we decided to venture out in to the deep freeze and go to Storytime for our FREE book! and socializing with other babies/Moms. It was CHILLY! -40 plus. Tomorrow is supposed to warm up to -20 and Friday -9. Here’s crossing our fingers! It is so cold that my fingers get numb in my sealskin mitts from the house to the car. Our car doesn’t warm up well either so that is why we have stayed housebound. Tim’s happy as I’ve been cooking like crazy and Edzèa has been subjected to new foods too. She is having yoghurt, cottage cheese and regular cheese now. It’s becoming much easier to feed her now that she is getting more in line with our diet. She is a good eater and seems to like dairy so that’s good as I’m slowly weaning her off of nursing.

We have TWO more birthday parties this weekend. One on each day of the weekend. This is going to be nuts as all of the Mom’s that I’ve met this year have children that are older than Edzèa so we have many many parties coming up.

I am going to start trading babysitting with another new Mom that I’ve met on Mondays. We are going to meet at the pool and trade looking after the babies while we each have a swim. I went swimming yesterday while Tim came home for lunch but it’s hard for him to co-ordinate.

She is napping well right now and sleeping well at night FINALLY! I couldn’t believe I had an hour and a half free this morning while she slept. It is soooo nice. I hope she keeps it up.

Here are a few more pics FYI. She received a blow up hockey stick in her goodie bag from the party this weekend. Believe it or not she also received a RUBBER ducky with a hockey stick and in a hockey jersey and helmet. Hmmmmm…this will be a re-gift for some unsuspecting hockey fans who have a baby I think!

She is almost crawling now too! She can creep forward to get something and she rolls herself all over the room now. It’s only a matter of time. We’ll keep you posted.Oh, there is one picture of her being pushed in her stroller by Haydon. I was in front of her and I couldn’t figure out why the stroller was moving forward but soon discovered the little man behind.
