Potty Trained at 20 mos

I think I can say, pretty confidently, that Edzea is now potty trained. The only things remaining are nap time and overnight. Supposedly that comes with time. She might be too young for that yet so she has a diaper on for nap time and at night. Otherwise, she hasn’t had a diaper on for close to 2 weeks now. The only hesitation I have is that other people keep telling me that there child got half-trained or trained and then regressed. I hope this doesn’t happen with Edzea. I can’t see it. She’s got it. She even holds it now but who knows.

You still have to  keep track of her and  remind her to go but she always goes when you take her so hopefully we are there.

Jan.21st, 2010

It’s been an eventful week. Tim left for Iqualuit on Monday scheduled to return on Wednesday…but as usual, weather conditions kept him from flying out. He is now scheduled to return Friday night…we hope!!!

So, I was supposed to take it easy this week which hasn’t quite worked out that way. But at least my cramping has stopped and all seems quiet on the baby front.

I was able to co-ordinate trading our single Chariot stroller for a double stroller with someone in town. It’s great! I could have used this ages ago when I babysat Mackenzie but now it’s for Edzea and the new baby. She was thrilled with it! and insisted on bringing one of her babies in with it’s blankie to check it out. We walked around inside the garage for a few minutes and of course she wanted to go outside but I was in the middle of making dinner when the trade had occurred. I had to use a phone call to Nana and Bumpa as a bribe to get her out of the garage. She is getting more and more stubborn by day. I can’t wrestle with her in my pregnant condition so I have to wrack my brain to outwit her stubborness. It’s exhausting!

She won’t even let me touch her boots to help her try to put them on right now. She can’t do it by herself but she insists on trying and gets extremely mad if I try to help.

She’s been in the dayhome for Wed., Thursday this week and went potty the whole time. The only time she can’t control it  right now is during naps and bedtime so she still wears her diaper during that time.

I’ve included some pics of my first blooming Amaryllis of the year too. I have 3 pots going and this is the first bloom. It’s so nice in the midst of the stark landscape I see every day.

Our weather this week has been beautiful though. Mainly -10 and warmer. Unusual for this time of year. I’m not complaining as on Monday, just after Tim left (of course) our garage door broke AGAIN!!! This time we will have to replace the whole component. Again, still waiting to hear back from the company. Luckily the weather has been fine so I don’t mind parking outside TOO much.

The heater in our car is also acting up. It blows hot air from 0 -4. It won’t shut off. I’m just worried that it is going to conk out just as I really need it. Haven’t gone to the shop to have it looked at yet.

Also, this is the week, everyone all of a sudden wanted to see our rental house. So, after many trips up the snow covered stairs, I’ve found the perfect tenants.

I’m looking forward to Tim coming home. Edzea has been sleeping with me from 3am every night as I’m too tired to fight to get her back into her own bed at that time.

That’s all for now .

More Baby Drama

More baby drama on the high snowbanks of Yellowknife. I took Edzea out to a friend’s house for a kids/adults breakfast party this morning while Daddy slept in. Everything was fine until we were about to leave at 1:00 pm. I stood up to get Edzea organized and had a sharp jabbing pain on my right side. I sat back down and the pain continued any time I attempted to stand/walk/do anything other than sit. So, after waiting it out for about 30minutes, we decided to call Tim and my friend, Lynca, went to pick him up and bring him back so he could drive us home/to the hospital for a precautionary visit.

They sent us straight up to Labour & Delivery and put the contraction/heart rate monitor on the baby. I was supposed to push a button every time the baby moved…which was often and very furiously. So, the long and short of it was-the baby has dropped and is moving so much (AGAIN!) that it is causing my uterus to cramp and my ligament pains to be severe. No contractions, no pre-term labour but I’m supposed to take it easy and call/go in if it gets any worse. I’m a little nervous about the activity level of this little one!

Edzea knew why we were at the hospital. She knew we were there for the new baby although we told her it was going to be a while! We hoped. She loved being there.

Funnily enough, yesterday, I gave Tim a project for my studio room/new spare room and we were going to start on it this afternoon. Now I feel even more urgency! He’s going to build a closet into the studio room and we want it completed asap.

Anyways, all is fine. I’m relaxing on the couch for the afternoon and I’m putting Edzea into the dayhome for another day tomorrow so that I can just sit and do nothing for another day just to make sure nothing progresses too early.

Here are some pics from this morning.

Potty training is still successful, we went out this morning in undies only and no accidents. So far, so good. Three dry days.

Also, Day 2 of sleeping in until 9am with us. Wakes up at 7am, then comes into bed with us and sleeps for another two hours. Please tell me that this is a long term trend!!!

Tim leaves for Iqualuit tomorrow for 3 days. Hopefully all goes well while he’s away.

Haydon’s 2nd Birthday

Sometimes, miracles happen. Like this morning. And the past two days.

This morning, Tim brought Edzea into our bed at 7am (which was late to start with as we went swimming last night so she “slept” in). He told her that if she didn’t go to sleep in our bed then she was going back to her bed. She conked out and I woke her up at 9:18 am so that we could make it to gymnastics on time. We are in shock. This has NEVER happened. We are wondering if she is sick. She woke up with a slightly runny nose…this could be the answer. We don’t care, we are going to bring her in with us tomorrow too…the heck with good sleep technique. This worked for us.

Today, and yesterday, no accidents in her undies. Today I put her in diapers for gymnastics and then Haydon’s party. Her diaper was dry all day and she went on the potty every time. So, I think she may have it!!! YAY!!! She’s the youngest in her group and the only one using the potty. We are SOOOO proud of her!! She tells everyone too! so we don’t even have to rub it in ourselves!

Smarties are the key.

Here are some pics from today. The man and baby are Markham & Desiree.

On Demand Potty Training

Will pee on demand for Smarties. I don’t care as long as it works. Staying home has been a success. No accidents so far. Also, I did some research on tricks for pee. Run the tap water in the morning/evening when she wakes up/before bath to get her moving. Smarties within her eyesight seem to be just as effective. So, hopefully we are on our way to diaper free days. We’ll see.

Tonight we are doing pizza and then going to Family Swim. Tomorrow, gymnastics with Daddy and then Haydon’s 2nd Birthday party.

We’re on the final stretch waiting for baby. Edzea has already offered some names either Edzea or Eddy. She likes both. We think Eddy comes from Stef & Jeff’s dog who she likes and Edzea, well, what a perfect name!

2010 Antics

Well, we’ve had a busy weekend. We’ve gone twice to the pool, moved our new King size bed in, gone to gymnastics, had two playdates and been out for dinner twice. All since Friday night!

Edzèa and her Daddy started their Saturday morning gymnastics class together this weekend. See pics. Tracey and I watched from the bleachers. It was amusing to watch the Dad’s with their kids! Tim was surprised/a bit disappointed in Edzèa’s capabilities in gymnastics or lack thereof. She is on the young end of the scale in the class and can only do so much. I’m not sure what he thought she’d be doing but obviously more than she is capable of at this time. She is good at rolling down the angled mats, walking with one foot in front of the other on the balance beams and has just started to bounce/jump on the trampolines by herself. This is a big jump from November. Literally!

On the other hand, her language skills are skyrocketing. Every day she continues to link more and more words into long sentences and complete thoughts/actions.

Swimming is a favourite and she now blows bubbles and throws her face into the water whenever she feels like it. She wanted me to take her on to the diving board on Friday night but I refused. She fixated on having a life jacket on so I would take her. Not happening until she can swim. Sorry kiddo.

Daddy and Edzèa now have a Sunday swim ritual too.  I stayed on deck today and took pics. Normally, we come to the earlier swim where there is a lane available so that I can swim while they play but we were too late for that today. Tim was having his sleep-in day in our new KING SIZE bed and we missed the noon swim!

P.S. Potty training continues to improve. She catches # 2 most times and is at least constantly letting us know when # 1 is in process. Doesn’t have much control on that one yet though.

More Potty Talk

Potty success again today. This time with Daddy this morning. Made it for # 1 twice and her only #2 of the day. Still has problems with # 1 if the diaper is on. In case you are interested! This is more for me than for public consumption. Just trying to keep track so I can remember for the next one.

By 20 mos. Updates for Me

Red, Yellow, Green, Blue can discern all of these colours and I believe white too. Could probably do this a week ago but I didn’t test her. She’s very clear on all of them now just by osmosis. I didn’t spend any time focusing on this. I’m just putting these down as I’ve missed some things from earlier on.

Phrases/sentences have expanded to 5 or 6 words long from 18 mos-20 mos. Also, uses the phrase “oh my Goodness” when she is excited about something.

Added: Yellowknife, Vancouver, Okotoks, and TREATS this week. Treats was a fast one. It took one M & M and she knew the word. She can also count to 10. Understands to about #5 when she counts. Can say the whole alphabet and is learning visual recognition of the words.

Sings many many songs although loses some parts of the song. Rock-a-bye-baby, Wheels on the Bus, Happy & You know it, Humpty Dumpty, Hello Song, Zoom Zoom, Old MacDonald, Twinkle Twinkle and more. She could do these from about 18 mos on and continues to improve.

Phrases: Sit right there Mommy. Etc. Will add more as she says them. She talks so much right now that I can’t recall anything at the moment.
