The sentence of the week is: ” Zaya do it.” Everything this week is Zaya do it.

Brrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!
Bruce and I walked downtown today and it was cold! We took Edzèa in to a gym program at one of the schools. She played hockey with Uncle Bruce, rode a trike, played ball and ran around. It was the coldest day we’ve had in Yellowknife so far. Winter is here. Yuck. Bruce was a bit shocked!
Here are some pics of Edzèa that her Daddy took of her vaccuuming last week, dressing up and wearing Nana’s Halloween Mickey Mouse costume today.
Quick Update
SNOW! SNOW! SNOW! It officially started snowing small flakes yesterday. Today we were frosted with an ample load! Bruce arrived and commented that he had just been at the beach in Vancouver last week. He’s finding it a little chilly! and it’s only -1. We still have plans to take him on a hike to Cameron Falls on Monday and some walks around town.
Edzèa is thrilled to have her Uncle Bruce here. In fact, she makes sure he plays dress-up, tea party and that he reads to her. She wanted him to give her her bath tonight but was hijacked by Daddy. Lucky for him. He says he’s prepared to buy ear plugs at Walmart as Tim warned him that we are having night wakings again. LOUD night wakings! And his room is right beside hers.
Here are some pics from the past little while. Playing play dough with her Daddy, Family Centre Snack time and playing in the kitchen (her favourite thing to do), dressing up with Uncle Bruce and reading some new books that Nana sent up to her.
Bye for now. Wish for warmer weather for us please!!
Tim is going to scan our 20 week ultrasound pics and I’ll post them here when he does. The baby looks like Edzèa from the profile and is healthy and normal looking so far.
Edzèa’s words at 16 Months
Here’s a list so I won’t forget. These are her words approximately, at 16 months old. Tim says that she also sang “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” the other night. Her words weren’t all clear but she babbled along in tune. She can also do some of the Old MacDonald song now and her newest words are “wagon, open, messy”. Almost everything I say now she will try to repeat. She is also combining words like Bumpa Tractor, Nana Happy, Dada Bum, Wet Bum, Yes Please, Dance Zaya, Bumpa Boat etc. I’m sure I’ve forgotten a few.
By the way, in the books, at the end of 16months she’s supposed to use 6 words. Also, her words are no indication of her understanding. She understands much more and knows way more words than she can say yet.

September Long Weekend in Yellowknife
Haven’t written for a while. Since Edzèa’s Daddy is working all weekend…we had to come up with creative solutions to amuse ourselves at home. We were planning on camping this weekend but Tim sent all of the employees out of town, so he’s on pager duty and hasn’t stopped working all day. I invited Gina & Georgia and Amanda and Haydon over for the afternoon to keep out of Tim’s hair. The kids had a ball together.
Haydon and Amanda stayed for dinner and Haydon and Edzèa had their second bath together this week. Things are heating up for those two!!!
Plus, I’m attempting to potty train Edzèa. She spends a lot of time on the potty but no action. Has a baby doll who also has her own potty and so really likes to spend time around the potty but doesn’t seem to be able to do the deed yet. This is officially day 1 of potty training.
Also, oblivious to it all, we didn’t find out until later that the smoky smell we were smelling through our open windows was a HUGE fire that had broken out at the Yellowknife dump this afternoon. Everyone was warned to stay inside and close your windows. So the road out to the camp area was closed anyways. This was the message sent out on Facebook.
Friends in Yellowknife please close your windows. There is a fire at the dump. YKFD is on site and fighting it. City heavy equipment is being supplemented by RTL. ENR are working to enable an air attack. YKFD requests that residents stay indoors and… keep their windows and doors closed until it is extinguished. Please spread the word.
It’s finally Summer…kind of…in Yellowknife
Beach Day
Well today went alot better than the past week did. I seem to have kicked the cold so Edzèa and I headed to the beach with Tracey and Mackenzie this afternoon. Edzèa chased seagulls for an hour, and then spent about two hours slopping around in the water and sand with a bucket and a shovel. Unfortunately, I forgot to bring the camera so no pics. We’re going to do the same thing all week if the weather/bugs co-operate.
Here are some pics of her devouring her first cob of corn. We didn’t even give her one but she kept asking for it so finally Daddy gave his piece up for her. So generous of him!
July 4th
Quickie update. Haven’t written for ages as we were down in B.C. and arrived back early this week. Tim and I are waiting for our first “official” paid babysitter to arrive so that we can go to a movie tonight. A little nervous but her Mom works with Tim so we know it will be ok. Only problem is that tonight of all nights, Edzèa is fighting going to sleep. Every other night this week she’s been no problem. 7pm conked out. Babysitter arrives in 20 minutes and she’s still not so happily awake in her crib.
Anyways, lots has happened since I last wrote. Edzèa took her first steps on June 24th at Mabel Lake. She was holding on to a chair and let go and took a few steps towards me. She did it over and over again and over the course of a few days was able to go greater distances. She’s pretty good now but still does about half/half with walking/crawling. She is just starting to figure out how to get up to standing from the floor.
On Canada Day, we all went to the Canada Day parade as a family and met all of our other parent friends/kids there. It was chaos but Edzèa was happy to be reunited with her friends, especially Mackenzie. They really are little buddies.
Later that day, I thought it would be fun to let her try fingerpainting in the tub. You will see from the pictures how impressed she was with the “yucky” finger paint on her fingers. We had to wash her down almost immediately. She just doesn’t see the appeal in messy things…is she really my child??? I guess she’s Tim’s ….
Bye for now.
Finally!!!
So we had our first nice day since Easter today. It was close to +12 which felt like +20 when you’ve been putting up with -7 to -10 on a regular basis!
I had Mackenzie today and I spent most of the day with the girls outside on the dead brown lawn. Edzea did not like the feel of the brown dead grass. She refused to crawl on it for the first half of the day. She later discovered rocks (gravel) and was digging in the dirt and then later decided that she didn’t even notice the scratchy yucky feeling grass after all! as long as she could climb into a flower bed and dig away. And here I thought she wasn’t going to be a kid that mucked about. Thank God she is after all! I couldn’t get my little “flower” out of the flower bed at the end of the day. Unfortunately I didn’t have my camera around for those shots.
Also, I’ve discovered that her hatred of hats has turned around. She is only allowed to go “outside” if she has her hat on. She understands this. And promptly brings me her hat continuously so my fight with the sun hat is over. Yay!
Enjoy the pics.
Edzèa’s First Birthday Party
Well, these are a little late coming and I couldn’t put them all on here but here are some of the photos from Edzèa’s birthday party. Allan’s new girlfriend took all of the photos and she took some really great ones of all of the other babies as well but I didn’t have the time/patience to upload all of them. She also apologized for missing pictures of Tim. It seems she didn’t pay much attention to him as her new romance was blossoming with Allan!!! That’s my guess.
Edzèa was the cleanest one year old we’ve seen so far this year. She refused to muck around in her cake at all! She actually held out her hand to Daddy & I to clean the whip cream off her finger as she didn’t like the way it felt. So much for all of the messy birthday cake shots we were hoping for. This girl is way too neat! Can’t be my daughter!
