Edzea’s first haircut

Edzea had her very first haircut today at almost exactly 3years 8 months old. It didn’t need cutting in terms of volume or length but it has been really ragged looking with her curls and dry and knotted. I’m hoping this little trim will keep it easier to maintain and look better than it has. I have to put leave-in conditioner in her hair after her bath each night now so I’m hoping this stops the rats nest at the back that she wakes up with each morning.

So, she attended her first gymnastics plus class with her coach today “Pink” but Tim had to take her as I had an ultrasound at the same time. Baby is lying in breech position. Hopefully she turns or I’m in for a c-section.

Another teacher at her ballet class which she had after gymnastics came to tell me that she is extremely co-ordinated and has a “talent” for dance too. Wow! Tim and I are pleased.

I’ll post some pics of her haircut tomorrow. She was with my hairdresser, Rachel who is Filipino and has nice warmth with kids. Like Rowena. Edzea liked her as Rachel hugged her right away and talked really animated and cute too her the whole time. Kept saying how beautiful her hair was and how cute she was. She brought Brownie with her. She thought his “fur” might need to be cut too!

More words at 17 mos for Rohan

A few weeks ago, the word of the week was “No”. It was very cute, he continually told Edzea and I “no” in a very cute drawn out way.

So to add to his words:

  2. Go
  3. Down
  4. Out
  5. Truck (sounds like uck)
  6. Garbage (says it dabage)
  7. Milk
  8. Cracker
  9. Miaow
  10. Vaccuum although it’s completely wierd it comes out as MowMow
  11. Edzea (Aya)
  12. Dog
  13. Move
  14. Computer (pew)
  15. Popsicle (almost sounds right)
  16. Draw (Daw)
  17. Grandma ( Damma)
  18. Bumpa
  19. Pool
  20. Bird
  21. Allan (as in Uncle Allan)

I can’t recall anymore right now but he’s definitely using more and more each day to get his message across.

Rohan’s Potty Training

So our son, at 17 months (that’s two months earlier than his sister which is surprising) is potty training himself. We’ve put him on the potty every night before his bath, just like Edzea to get him used to the concept and last night, he actually peed. Then pooped. We were floored…so out came the smarties and boy was he happy! We thought it was just a fluke, random occurrence until this morning when I woke up with him.

I put the potty out in our downstairs bathroom. Edzea had to go and I told her that if she started wiping her bum on her own then she would get a treat (she’s a bit put out that Rohan is getting them). So, Rohan went over to the potty and sat down. I asked him if he had to go. He wanted to be stripped completely naked and Edzea said, “he went Mommy, I heard it”. Sure enough pee pee on the potty. He wouldn’t get off until I presented the treats. 20 minutes later, he had disappeared and was sitting on the potty again. I thought he was just playing the “I want more treats game” but I humoured him and took off his diaper and he went again. Dry diaper for the morning. I was a bit astounded. So, he seems to get it???>>> We weren’t planning on seriously trying to potty train him until we were back from Mabel Lake but I guess we’ll see how it goes over the next two weeks. Smarties are a big motivation!

Tim’s had him since the morning because I’ve been nauseous and lying down for a couple of hours so I’m not sure how it’s gone since then but so far I’m impressed! and everyone said boys were harder to train. My boy is obviously superior!!!

Oh and he also wants toilet paper so he can wipe and put it down the potty. Very funny!

Edzea Update

This is just going to be a quick post as a reminder to myself…of “kids say the darndest things!”. So I took Edzea and Rohan to a new splash park a couple of days ago and Edzea was having lots of fun. She wanted to take her hat off so that she could completely soak her head. She did this a few times and was giggling hysterically then came out with “Oh God. Oh God!” Tim and I have told her that that is not a nice word to say…so she looks at me, contemplates, and then asks me…”but Godmother, is Godmother a bad word Mommy?” and I say “no”. There are other parents there kinda chuckling as I have this conversation with her. So she goes off and gets herself soaked again and yells out, “Oh Godmother!” I chuckled to myself but then told her it would be better to use ” Oh Gosh”. So there you go. A moment in time that I didn’t want to forget. It was so cute and funny!

She is also doing swimmingly in swimming lessons at the moment. The teacher has told me that she will be too advanced for the class I’ve signed her up for after this one but unfortunately I can’t co-ordinate the time slot of the other one so I’m not sure how to resolve it. I may end up in the water with her all month just so she doesn’t have to regress with timid kids. Oh well, I want her to keep doing well so looks like I’m getting wet all month!

First Steps

Rohan took his first steps at 14 mos 1 day. May 4th, the day Nana arrived. He wanted his toothbrush/toothpaste and I was holding it so he walked 1 step towards me and then did it a couple more times. 3 steps grand total so we are on our way finally!

Easter Weekend 2011

Here are some pics from our Easter dinner at Tracey & Markham’s on Easter Sunday. Gina, Stuart, Gina’s Mom-Carol & kids, Amanda & Paul & kids and us.

We had fresh char it was delicious. Edzea and I made the Easter cake. It was a kid cake!

Yesterday (Easter Monday), Cole & Liam, put on an Easter egg hunt for Edzea at their house. She has WAY too much chocolate now!  She was determined to ride her tricycle there and back in the snow in -13. Our Northern girl. She loves riding her tricycle. She and Georgia did loops around the neighbourhood one afternoon this weekend too.

Rohan loves to draw now and is also determined to feed himself. He is actually fairly neat for his age. He really tries to get it right. He loves tea parties too which Tim is thrilled about!

Easter’ish Activities

Here are some of the things we’ve been doing over the past week. Missing is the Easter cookies we made yesterday-I’ll try to add some pics of those later.

Rohan actually helped with the Bunny Hutch. He didn’t stuff jellybeans in his mouth or mess with Edzea’s vibe. They are playing very well together most of the time.

They both love drawing, tea parties and decorating together.

Rohan can say a few words now. He signs milk all the time and says boo, book, wall, hop, hot etc. He understands everything and follows directions well.

He’s been at Nancy’s for a full day now and she was able to get him to nap so it looks like they will both be spending the day at Nancy’s until we go.

Yesterday, I took Edzea swimming after we made Easter cookies. Then we had Gina, Stuart, Georgia, Owen & Gina’s Mom, Carol, Troy and Allan over for BBQ hamburgers. The weather still isn’t warm enough to be out on our deck but we are soldiering on in the face of this continuous wintery weather with the determination to force spring out of it’s hibernation.

Today we are all going to take the toddlers to see the matinee movie about the Easter bunny, “Hop”. This will be the second time Edzea has seen it. The first time being her FIRST movie. She loved it of course.

Tomorrow we are doing our Easter morning egg hunt, then waffle brunch with Allan followed by a big Easter dinner party at Markham & Tracey’s.

Monday, Edzea has been invited to ride her tricycle over to Cole & Liam’s house (Tim’s boss’ kids). They have a special surprise egg hunt planned for her so this girl is being very spoiled by the Easter bunny this weekend!

Misc January 2011

Here are some pics from when we arrived back in YK. We’ve been back since the 17th and it’s been busy.

There are some pics of Haydon’s third birthday party which we attended this weekend. We were able to catch up with most of our friends.

Last weekend, we were invited to Mathieu’s small birthday dinner.  Maria and Yose just invited us over for dinner last Sunday not mentioning Mathieu’s birthday but thankfully I remembered it was his birthday. They decided to have a small gathering and Mathieu chose Edzea and another girl to be at his party. It was fun but Maria was worried after seeing Rohan get into absolutely everything at their house!

Rohan’s one track mind focus is on the stairs at the moment. He is very good at them but we can’t leave him alone for a second because inevitably he’s at the stairs if we haven’t remembered the baby gate. Also, he’s getting his fingers caught in the drawers/cupboards because he is constantly opening/closing them.

He stands for a few seconds right now and he furniture walks everywhere. He’s new trick is to turn the tv off and on over and over again. He turns it on, I have it on the music station, he dances and turns it off again.

His ear infections have cleared up and his mood is much improved. He is eating like a fiend and he is partially weaned. During the daytime he is almost completely weaned.

Edzea is very lovey dovey at the moment. She tells Mommy  & Daddy that we are her favourite parents and she loves us daily.
