Christmas Day

Here are a few pictures of our lovely Christmas Day in Yellowknife. Unfortunately, Edzea was obviously reacting with fever and mini-cold to her immunization from Tuesday so we had a strange day. She fell asleep during waffle making so conveniently Tim and I were able to eat in peace and open all of “our” gifts on our own.

We only opened half of Edzea’s gifts today so she will continue opening them over the next few days. It has become “Christmas week” at our house.

Every night before bed she kept asking for a “chooo chooo” from Santa….so lo and behold, Santa brought one. Edzea and her Daddy had lots of fun with her new train set. I am shocked by how much she loves to BUILD and construct things. Definitely her father’s child. She also loves to cook so Santa brought her some pots & pans and she helped in the kitchen in her new cooking outfit too.

We went to Gina and Stuart’s for Christmas dinner where both girls were under the weather and dinner didn’t quite go as planned. I’ll write more when I have more energy. Merry Christmas!

Is it Spring in Yellowknife Finally????!!!!

Quick Post. Nana Ditters left on a jet plane this afternoon after our FIRST lovely warm’ish day outside. We walked into town and back in +7 which was a high for us since she had arrived. We talked to Sarah tonight and she says it’s expected to be +20 in Vancouver for the next two days. Nana will be happy!

Here are some pics of Edzèa out on the deck in our warm weather and a clip of her on her swing for the first time.

First Swing!

So much has happened since her birthday, I’m pooped, too much to write down so just enjoy what you get!!

Edzèa’s First Birthday

Well, Nana Ditters arrived late last night for little Strawberry’s birthday and she came laden with gifts! Edzèa’s Mommy and Daddy didn’t even have their gifts ready for her but luckily Nana came prepared.

So, Edzèa got the idea of opening gifts fairly quickly. She opened numerous gifts throughout the day and then just before bedtime had a huge gift opening. She retreated to her little chair with one of her stuffed toys near the end to tell us she had had enough. We’ve decided to give her one gift a day for the next little while so that she doesn’t go on overload! She was tired and overstimulated at bedtime. I was reminded of last year at this time when she would howl before being put down. So much for my vision of quietly rocking my baby to sleep on the nigh of her first birthday. She went down squawling!

Nana and I spent the morning playing with her and then we walked downtown and had coffee at Javaroma with her. She got a special muffin for her birthday.

Here is a sampling of Edzèa and her lovely gifts from her first birthday. Mommy is still finishing a chair that she is making for her. Nana painted her a diptych of beautiful paintings of Nana’s beautiful old teddy bear. She’s been making refinements on them since January. Edzèa’s Mommy is so grateful that Nana has provided the artwork for the new room as Edzèa’s Mommy seems to be challenged to find time to paint at present. Thank you Nana! Thank you to everyone for all of the phone calls and well wishes for Edzèa. She had a great day with her Nana and is looking forward to her big party on Saturday. 30 people and counting.

Last year seems so long ago yet so fresh as well. We walked right by the hospital and reminisced about labour last year and the godsend of EPIDURALS!!! She has certainly brought a whole range of happiness, love and chaos to our lives over the past year but we love her to pieces!

Dad’s Visit and some Updated House pics

Well, I finally found my camera case with my cable in it after looking for two weeks. It was in a basket full of miscellaneous stuff…in the garage…which is still a mess. So, I looked frantically after a threatening email from my Mother-in-law and found it!!! She’d better be happy now!!!

These are just a small sampling of the past few weeks which has been incredibly frantic with moving/Dad visiting/Dad painting/unpacking and general chaos from moving. Hope you enjoy.

I had the day free today to unpack and then I taught this afternoon while Tracey had Edzèa.

I miss my babysitter aka Grandpa! You can see from the pics that he had a REALLY tough job looking after Edzèa. When I dropped him off at the airport and came back to the house alone, Edzèa kept looking at the door and pointing saying “Dada” looking for her Grandpa (she can’t say Grandpa so she called him Dada too).

Anyways, I’m pooped, so I’ll write more later. Enjoy the photos.

Spring? in Yellowknife…

Hardly…but it did get down to -5 briefly yesterday evening. Back up to -26 this morning. We were invited to Gina and Stuart’s house for brunch this morning for Gina’s birthday. So we packed  Edzèa up into a warm duvet and her little sled and took her for her first sled ride.

Here is Daddy pulling her on the way back:

Edzèa LOVES pancakes. Surprise surprise.

Yesterday, we went to Tracey’s art show at the Snow Castle. See pics below. It was cold blowing snow-pretty intrepid of Tracey to have her show in an ICE castle.
