Dec.16th Family Centre Christmas Party

Today was the Family Centre Christmas party both Edzea and Rohan enjoyed themselves thoroughly. Rohan won’t leave poor Desiree alone. He actually left a love bite on her shoulder when I was babysitting her the other day. He mauls her. He chases her and hugs and kisses her continually. We had to pull him off her repeatedly at the party. She did look really cute. He doesn’t do this with anyone else. It’s very odd.

He also won’t sit still during anything anymore. I think I spent more time chasing him during circle time/Santa time until finally Mary took him and sat him on her lap. He just kept going for the tree ornaments. He gets very mad when you intervene!

Anyways, Santa did turn up and I didn’t warn Edzea but she was fine with him at the Family Centre. He brought books for all of the kids. She wouldn’t go near him but she quite enjoyed watching him from a distance.

Snack time was filled with Christmas treats which you will see that Edzea loaded up on her plate. I thought she was going to get sick but she didn’t eat it all thank goodness.

This is probably the last post until after we return from holidays so Happy Holidays and enjoy the Family Centre pics.

Notice from the pics how long Edzea’s friends hair is compared to hers. When is it going to fill in???

SSI Kids Christmas Party & Desiree’s 1st Birthday Party

Busy day. SSI Christmas party for the kids which was great. Pancake brunch spread, magicians, Christmas crafts and a visit from ol’ St.Nick. Rohan sat with Santa no problem. Unfortunately our batteries died and we didn’t get a picture of it. Looks like there won’t be any photos on Santa’s knee for Edzea this year. She ran screaming from him this year. When I had her out of the party room, the first question she asked was, “Where’s his sleigh Mommy?” So, we went back in to ask Daddy and Daddy said, ” On the roof of course.” “I want to see it,” says Edzea. We told her it was too cold out. She watched Santa from a safe distance on Daddy’s knee and then her babysitter, big boy friend, Cole, retrieved her gift from Santa for her. She received a Curious George book and her first real board game, Candyland. Santa had a little help with the gifts as Amanda and I were asked to “help” Santa with some elf duties earlier in the week.

Rohan received some little fisher price cars and a puppet board book on Goldfish. He LOVES cars. He has a little garage that I picked up for Edzea ages ago and he likes to play with it with his cars. He even makes the engine sounds. No one taught him this. It must be an innate boy thing. Rohan was played with by all of the teenage girls at the party. In fact he was with our other babysitter, Megan, for most of the morning. We haven’t actually had a babysitter since Rohan was born but she’s in line for it for sure as he likes her alot too although he’s pretty easy with everyone. Gina looks after him once a week right now and I look after Owen. We do a trade and Owen cries on and off the whole time he’s here while Rohan just has a great time at Gina’s house. He doesn’t even notice I’m gone!

Anyhow, the day went well. We went to Tracey & Markham’s for Desiree’s first birthday party. They had a ton of food and it was very Christmasssy! Edzea and Georgia and Mackenzie are a threesome.

I had Mackenzie over the other day and during the course of the playdate, Edzea told Mackenzie, “No, Mackenzie, don’t do that it hurts my feelings.” They were yelling about each other’s siblings and talking about hair cuts…it’s too complicated to write down.

Also, when I was super busy the other day getting ready for our brunch last week. I guess I was telling her to get out of my hair and get out of the kitchen. She sat down with her blankie, looked up at me and said, “Mommy, that’s not very nice to me. It’s mean.” So, I played a Bingo game with her and gave her a cookie because I felt so bad!

Happy Canada Day! 2010

We had a great Canada Day in Yellowknife despite the inclement weather. Tim had arrived on time back from Iqualuit the night before so I was relieved! The night before it took me 2 1/2 hours to get kids to bed. I was worn out! We headed down to the parade on Franklin and met all of our friends across from Javaroma. Carolyn, Glen, Connor, Heather, Glen, Natalie, Madeline, Amanda, Paul, Judy, Haydon, Madyson, Gina, Stuart, Georgia, Owen, Katherine. The annual meeting spot. Edzea loved all of the mascots-A&W Root Bear and the McDonald’s bird were chased down the road. Lots of the floats were throwing out candies so Edzea got a little box of her own smarties for the first time and a sucker for the first time.

From the parade site we moved to the new civic plaza site at the side of Frame Lake. Bug free and super fun for the kids. Rohan enjoyed himself in the Baby Bjorn with Daddy. Edzea danced to the different bands that were there. She truly loves music!

There was a bouncy castle that proved to be very popular with she and her friends too. They all went in it as a group and had a good time. Edzea went back 3 times. We waited in line!!! The first time with Haydon & Connor & Georgia, next time with Natalie and then the last time with Mathieu. We then found the Canada’s Birthday cupcakes and we all dug in! Edzea most of all. That girl LOVES cake! as you can see from the pics. We then had Katherine over to our house for dinner and a movie. All in all a great Canada Day!

Aboriginal Day-Civic Holiday in the NWT

Here are some pics of Edzea’s first fair rides. She went on the Ferris Wheel for the first time. First with Mommy & Uncle Allan and later with Daddy. She went on a mini-motorcycle ride, a horse and cart ride and an airplane ride too. The fair is in town until tomorrow.

I took her swimming on her own today too. She is comfortable in the water but cautious. She gets more comfortable each time we go. She now chooses to blow bubbles on her own to practice. Floats on her back with me, and generally plays in the water comfortably. She isn’t ready to float and put her face completely in yet so we’ll just let her go at her own pace.

Happy Father’s Day

Daddy’s first Father’s day as a father of two! Rohan and Edzea bought Daddy some tops for work and made him dinner with Mommy. We had Yose & Maria & Mathieu, Gina, Stuart, Georgia and Owen over for Father’s Day dinner. We made it a potluck and despite Mathieu’s potty training accidents, all went smoothly.

Edzea seems to be doing well in her toddler bed so we’ll see how it goes. The only down side is that she bangs on the door when she is REALLY awake from her nap/night time.

Here are some pics of the kids in their respective new beds.

Also, Edzea in her rain gear for our inclement weather this weekend. Tomorrow is Aboriginal Day so Tim is at home which is why we decided to switch Edzea to her toddler bed this weekend as we’d both be around to deal with her consistently.

Big Girl Bed

So, we officially moved Edzea into a big girl bed today. She is sleeping in it tonight. She ended up in the playpen at nap time. She had an audience for her bedtime tonight with Uncle Allan and Katherine here for storytime and everyone made a BIG deal of her big girl bed. She told them that she wasn’t going to be sleeping in the crib anymore. It was for Rohan.

She helped Daddy set the crib up in Rohan’s room and is excited about her bed but we aren’t sure how she will be when she wakes up and can get to the door. She can’t open the door but she can knock on it like crazy!

Rohan needed the crib. He was waking up way too often in his little bassinette and seems to be sleeping much better/longer tonight in the crib. We were able to watch a movie tonight with Allan and Katherine and no one woke up!

Here are some pics: of Tim and Rohan asleep in our bed in the morning. Like father like son. And then Edzea’s new bed.

Rohan Rolled!

Rohan rolled for the first time that I’ve seen at Gina’s house today. He rolled from his front to his back and then later today he practiced getting on to his tummy from his back…so our boy is rolling! He’s 14 weeks old now or 3 1/2 mos.

Sally has been working hard on the suite while Tim and I offer little bits of assistance where we can. I’m doing the promotions and paperwork and Tim is doing what he can while he is still working during the day.

The weather is summer’y as per usual. Hot and sunny the only difference from last week is that we have now added “BUGGY” into the mix. It was nice while it lasted. I tried to go out and garden at 11pm last night but the mosquitoes chased me inside. So my hanging baskets are still not finished!

The seeds that Edzea and I literally THREW into her garden box a couple of weeks ago have sprouted. I couldn’t believe it. Everyone told me that I was too late for sunflowers but lo and behold they have grown. It’s the combination of being on the sunny side of the house with 24 hrs of daylight and lots of water.

Here are pics from the day Sally arrived at our Family Centre Year end picnic. I don’t have any others up until today as I had misplaced my camera the day Sally arrived. There are some cute pics of Edzea with Grandma’s shoes on from today at the suite.

June Images

Here are some pics from the past week. Rohan is doing some tummy time. He now rolls on to each side at 3mos. He laughs for Daddy mostly or if I’m singing he seems to find that funny!

There are some beach images of an afternoon at Long Lake last week. The water was freezing but that didn’t stop Miss Water-girl. I didn’t even bring her bathing suit because I didn’t think she’d go in but of course she did.

Gina and I took the girls swimming yesterday. I’ve been fighting a cold so Gina took the girls in to the water and had the “easy” job. I was in charge of looking after the babies. You can see from the pics that they were a HANDFUL! Gina and I are taking the girls a couple of times a week in the hopes of teaching them how to swim. Georgia has been doing swimming lessons for a year so Edzea is a bit behind and a year younger but she is so comfortable in the water that I’m hoping that I’ll have her at least floating by the end of summer.

We also have Rohan in his Bumbo chair every day as he really likes to try to sit up.

Edzea said Buenos Dias to us the other day. This is from Dora. I’ve given in to Dora. It’s not a bad show just the paraphenalia that comes with it is offensive.

Rohan is sleeping well. Not through the night yet but he goes to bed between 7-8pm and then sleeps until 2am. Then up once more to feed a few hours later. He’s in bed with Tim right now sleeping in! Of course I’m up with the early bird! 6am this morning.

Grandma arrives today and we are all going to the Family Centre family picnic at Long Lake. Tim is coming too!
