Dec.16th Family Centre Christmas Party

Today was the Family Centre Christmas party both Edzea and Rohan enjoyed themselves thoroughly. Rohan won’t leave poor Desiree alone. He actually left a love bite on her shoulder when I was babysitting her the other day. He mauls her. He chases her and hugs and kisses her continually. We had to pull him off her repeatedly at the party. She did look really cute. He doesn’t do this with anyone else. It’s very odd.

He also won’t sit still during anything anymore. I think I spent more time chasing him during circle time/Santa time until finally Mary took him and sat him on her lap. He just kept going for the tree ornaments. He gets very mad when you intervene!

Anyways, Santa did turn up and I didn’t warn Edzea but she was fine with him at the Family Centre. He brought books for all of the kids. She wouldn’t go near him but she quite enjoyed watching him from a distance.

Snack time was filled with Christmas treats which you will see that Edzea loaded up on her plate. I thought she was going to get sick but she didn’t eat it all thank goodness.

This is probably the last post until after we return from holidays so Happy Holidays and enjoy the Family Centre pics.

Notice from the pics how long Edzea’s friends hair is compared to hers. When is it going to fill in???

SSI Kids Christmas Party & Desiree’s 1st Birthday Party

Busy day. SSI Christmas party for the kids which was great. Pancake brunch spread, magicians, Christmas crafts and a visit from ol’ St.Nick. Rohan sat with Santa no problem. Unfortunately our batteries died and we didn’t get a picture of it. Looks like there won’t be any photos on Santa’s knee for Edzea this year. She ran screaming from him this year. When I had her out of the party room, the first question she asked was, “Where’s his sleigh Mommy?” So, we went back in to ask Daddy and Daddy said, ” On the roof of course.” “I want to see it,” says Edzea. We told her it was too cold out. She watched Santa from a safe distance on Daddy’s knee and then her babysitter, big boy friend, Cole, retrieved her gift from Santa for her. She received a Curious George book and her first real board game, Candyland. Santa had a little help with the gifts as Amanda and I were asked to “help” Santa with some elf duties earlier in the week.

Rohan received some little fisher price cars and a puppet board book on Goldfish. He LOVES cars. He has a little garage that I picked up for Edzea ages ago and he likes to play with it with his cars. He even makes the engine sounds. No one taught him this. It must be an innate boy thing. Rohan was played with by all of the teenage girls at the party. In fact he was with our other babysitter, Megan, for most of the morning. We haven’t actually had a babysitter since Rohan was born but she’s in line for it for sure as he likes her alot too although he’s pretty easy with everyone. Gina looks after him once a week right now and I look after Owen. We do a trade and Owen cries on and off the whole time he’s here while Rohan just has a great time at Gina’s house. He doesn’t even notice I’m gone!

Anyhow, the day went well. We went to Tracey & Markham’s for Desiree’s first birthday party. They had a ton of food and it was very Christmasssy! Edzea and Georgia and Mackenzie are a threesome.

I had Mackenzie over the other day and during the course of the playdate, Edzea told Mackenzie, “No, Mackenzie, don’t do that it hurts my feelings.” They were yelling about each other’s siblings and talking about hair cuts…it’s too complicated to write down.

Also, when I was super busy the other day getting ready for our brunch last week. I guess I was telling her to get out of my hair and get out of the kitchen. She sat down with her blankie, looked up at me and said, “Mommy, that’s not very nice to me. It’s mean.” So, I played a Bingo game with her and gave her a cookie because I felt so bad!

Holiday Brunch Dec.5

We had our holiday brunch at our house this morning. Because Tim was slated to cook waffles and do various other things, our friends, Maria and Yose, offered to come early and help. This was great as it would have been impossible for me to get things underway on time without them.

There are pics from the craft activities the kids did to the present opening. The kids opened their personalized painted placemats that Edzea and I made for them.

My friend from CJBS who just moved back into town, Linsey and her son, Trent came as well.

A few of our really good friends couldn’t make it for a variety of reasons but we had a great core group and lots of fun.

Festival of Trees & Tree Decorating

Christmas festivities officially began for us this weekend. I picked up a $10 artificial tree at the Flea Market on Friday as Edzea kept pestering me about a tree. So, when Daddy came home on Saturday afternoon, he came home to decorate! It wasn’t quite as “Norman Rockwell” as I’d imagined. Glass ball ornaments are no longer going to have a place in our “ornament box”. They need to be replaced with PLASTIC! Need I say more?

Anyways, there are a few pics of us going to the Festival of Trees event in Yellowknife. Santa was there but Edzea refused to go anywhere near him as “I don’t like Santa, I’m afreed of him. His beard.” So, we have a pic of Rohan with Santa but that’s it. There are pics of Edzea doing all of the activities at the Festival which she enjoyed so it doesn’t really matter if she won’t sit with Santa. She wouldn’t even sit on my knee on Santa’s knee this year. No bribe was big enough so we gave up.

We’re off to Maria and Yose’s for dinner tonight. The kids were going to go sledding but it’s already dark and -20 so we’re going to do indoor activities instead!

Nov.19th and Crawling!

Rohan officially started “creeping/crawling” yesterday at 8 1/2 months. It’s a funny way of getting around but I’m sure he will have the traditional crawl mastered this week. He kind of swims himself along the floor like a dolphin. Two arm pulls like butterfly and then a wriggle of the legs. It’s very odd but occasionally he moves up to his knees so I’m sure he’ll figure out an easier way soon. At least he gets where he wants to slowly.

And “Mumamummum” is the latest thing out of his mouth. He gets so much praise for it that he practises a lot! Also, to be fair to Dada I have continuously said Mama to him for the past month in the hopes that he’ll say it…so it’s not that fair really!

He mastered clapping with the actual sound this week too. He makes a clicking noise with his mouth that I think is supposed to be clap clap but he can actually make his hands make the sound. He’s SOOOO proud of himself. It’s so cute!

Brief

Here are some pics of the kids playing with megablocks on Sunday morning. Edzea wasn’t too impressed with Rohan’s “help”. But she eventually let him kiss and hug her. He’s a very affectionate little fellow.

Tonight I saw him in the bath for the first time in a long time without Edzea. He was on his tummy splashing and getting his face in. Tim says, “Here’s your waterbaby right here.” Tim says he constantly puts his face in, splashes, and just loves the water. Interesting.

Updates

It’s  been busy as usual up here. Here are some pics of Edzea dressed up to go to her first theatre performance at NACC. We went with Tracey & Mackenzie. It was billed as being appropriate for young kids but it wasn’t. It was a spoof on Fairy Tales. The whole way to the theatre, Edzea kept saying, “Mommy, I don’t want the big bad wolf there.” She fixated on this. We were met at the entrance doors by Snow White which she noticed was NOT the same as the Snow White at Mabel Lake and “where were the little people????” She wanted to see the three little pigs and that was it. While we were waiting for the curtains to rise, they were blasting hard rock music and then when the curtain did rise it came on with about 30 teenagers dressed as wolves, and various other Fairy Tale characters dancing to a very loud number. She sat on my lap and held on for dear life. Then they did a version of the dating game with Prince Charming, Snow White, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty. They were yelling and Edzea just didn’t understand it. Then another dance number with wolves came on and we left the theatre. I wasn’t going to force her to stay and watch something she wasn’t ready for.

So, I hung out with her in the lobby with a number of other parents and toddlers who had left the show waiting for Tracey & Mackenzie to come out. Haydon and Amanda had come and I didn’t realize they were there until they came out of the theatre about 10 minutes after us. We’ve all decided that we will attempt “The Nutcracker” at Christmas time. It should be tame enough.

Edzea is busy with Christmas projects for her friends. See the sample of one of her paintings. She is quite the artist at the moment.

She signs her letter E by herself now. It’s quite amazing. I showed her how to do it one day and she’s remembered. Also, she is trying to imitate to a degree other images I show her. She now does a half circle rainbow, trees and she is trying faces, cats. If you use your imagination you can almost see a faint resemblance to these items!!!

Rohan is doing well. He’s had a cold all week but he’s always a happy little fellow so that hasn’t brought him down too much. He loves Kindermusic and loves to dance with Daddy. He is sooooo close to crawling we can’t quite believe he hasn’t figured it out yet. It will come soon.

Also, Edzea is wanting PRIVACY in the bathroom now. She slams the door in your face when you try to follow her in. She only calls you to help with the wiping now.

Tim’s at soccer tonight. We are all finally healthy at the moment, cross our fingers. The weather is still balmy max. -4 so far. It’s been a nice winter so far.

Looking forward to our trip south in December.

Edzea and I do some one on one girl time together on the weekends. We usually go to the pool together but I’m still avoiding the pool until I’m sure we all feel super healthy. So today we went grocery shopping and then we went to the fish barge to get fish for our freezer. Edzea hadn’t been there before and she was really curious about where the fish came from if it wasn’t from Mabel Lake. So I showed her Great Slave Lake and we looked at all of the boats frozen into the ice. Then, we walked over to a new little coffee shop that just opened right beside it. It has a little craft gallery in it, a spot to order soup, baked goods, drinks, coffee etc and then a small eating area. We stayed there for a while and ate cookies and chatted. Then we went into the craft gallery where they had plain white stuffed animal cats in a big treasure chest. The lady in the gallery is painting them and then selling them with $2 from every sale going to the SPCA. I asked if we could purchase one for Edzea to paint and she was so nice. She gave us two for $5. She also gave us so me neat beaded iron on beading to use as collars when we were done and told me about a neat technique for fabric painting. All in all, we had a fun afternoon.

Lost Voice

Here are some lost pics from October from my Iphone. Not good quality but at least I have some when my camera battery dies.

These are mainly pics from Maddy’s first birthday/Halloween party potluck at SSI on Sunday. Note our daughter NEVER wanted me to take any pics so they are ones where I’m hiding the camera from her. See, how front and centre she is at the cake. Also, Rohan refused to wear his pirate hat. I picked up my laryngitis there too. Fun.

Also there is a typical pic of Daddy & Son. Many people took this pic thinking it was unusual ha ha! It’s just a day in the life of Rohan & his Daddy.
