April 2nd

So, we took possession of our new house yesterday. Things have been busy. We moved our kitchen boxes last night and had a pizza dinner at the house. See our first pic in our new house. Today I’m going to unpack the kitchen while Edzea hopefully plays….we’ll see….

We kept her past her bedtime last night. When we arrived she was fast asleep…

Will Crawl for Food!

Surprise! Surprise! Our daughter will crawl for Baby Mum Mum’s! She started crawling on Friday on her 9 month birthday! She only took a few steps but is now more proficient. She is still learning so it’s a bit stilted and slow but she will crawl for Mum Mum’s and Mommy!

Check our big girl out. She did this despite having a bad flu and terrible teething. We have all been down for the count this week. We are almost out of the woods. Hopefully we will get to leave the house by Tuesday.

Kindermusic Pics

Here are the pics from today’s Kindermusic class.  They had hand-held mirrors for the little musicians to admire themselves in and “our girl” decided that she was the fairest of them all so she gave herself a few kisses in the mirror.

Tracey and Mackenzie were back. Mackenzie took her first steps towards me in class. So that stopped class for a while as she continued to try her newfound skills out! It was like watching the scarecrow in the Wizard of Oz when he didn’t have any stuffing!

Mom might recognize the other two women in the group. They were two of the nurses (two of the many!) that I had in the hospital. They both have little boys about 3 1/2 months old. Pam and Gillian. We’ve all been going for coffee after Kindermusic and Gillian and I attend the Racquetclub Parent & Tot fitness sessions together. We are going to start playing squash together instead of doing some of the fitness classes. Tim’s happy I’m making nurse friends!

In the afternoon, we went to the Literacy Council’s story/song-time. We were given a little book on baby sign language which was good. We learned some songs to do with the signs.

It looks like Tracey was called about the Family Centre which is great as I would have missed having her there in the afternoons. We are starting our baby-trade again. I am taking Mackenzie on Friday afternoon so that Tracey can take Edzèa on Monday when I teach at K’alemi Dene School in the afternoon.

Tomorrow, we have Parent & Tot fitness then I’m joining a couple of other Mom’s at the pool for family swim.  Edzèa loves the water so it should be fun!

Family Centre Fun

Here are some of the latest pics of  Edzèa playing at our new great place to go. We are now members of the Yellowknife Family Centre which is fantastic! Here are some pics of her playing with my friend, Carolyn’s little boy, Connor and some pics of a BIG South African (read: Dutch) 2 1/2 year old who thought Edzèa was a doll! The picture I didn’t get as I had to run and intervene was the one where the little Dutch girl (Maya) tried to pick Edzèa up in her arms. Gotta run! Going to a movie with another Mommy!

It’s Beginning to Feel a lot like Christmas

First of all, here’s a pic of Edzèa’s two new front teeth. They aren’t quite complete but they are coming in fast. We finally ventured out today. My cold is finally gone. So we managed to make it to Kindermusic and then the Literacy council storytime in the afternoon. Yellowknife is truly an amazing place if you are a new Mom. We get free books every Wednesday at the Storytime. Today we got a really need puppet/storybook. The finger puppet pokes through a hole in each page. Two things Edzèa loves-books and puppets. She loves her book.

I get reminded of how friendly everyone in Yellowknife is too. A little boy wanted to touch Edzèa at the coffee shop this morning and so I got to know his Mom and it looks like we might go skiing together sometime now.

I dressed her for Christmas today as we won’t be around Yellowknife for Christmas this year. Here is the outfit I picked up at the Flea Market for $2 last year. She got lots of comments on it!

She also received her first Christmas card yesterday from the Ditters grandparents. This is how she enjoyed it!

Edzèa is 7 months old today!

Wow. Edzèa is 7 months old. She’s a busy little bee right now. She isn’t crawling but she’s pretty good at bossing Mommy & Daddy around to get her to the places she wants to go.

Yesterday was a small breakthrough. Uncle Allan, her God-father, babysat her for the afternoon. It wasn’t going well at first with Mommy around trying to work in the house…so I left…to a screaming child who sounded like she was choking she was so hysterical to be held/played with by this *strange* man.

Fast forward to a couple of hours later:

Well, the evidence is in the pictures. She hardly blinked when I arrived home. She was having so much fun with Uncle Allan. He’s *almost* as fun as Dadddy. He had her giggling like crazy over everything. I was soooo happy as I was sooooo worried that I would never be able to leave her with anyone but Tim, me or Tracey. It’s a HUGE relief. She just  LOVED him. I guess she cried for 5minutes, then he went and wrapped her in her *blankie* and she calmed down and just had fun with him after that. He says that she hummed along with him to a song he sang her…hmmm, can we say “doting God-father”…anyways, he couldn’t believe how much she likes music. She really does go bonkers for music.

And cats.

Someone at Tim’s work told us the other day that she is the happiest baby he has ever seen. He says he thinks it’s pure genetics while we hope it also has something to do with her loving environment!

Yesterday, a lady at the Centre for Northern Families that we go to for our Songtime on Fridays and Kindermusic on Wednesdays, kept telling me how special Edzèa was. She says she likes other babies but isn’t sure why she just adores Edzèa. And she really is a random stranger although we are now getting to know her. Edzèa likes her too but she completely goes gaga over Edzèa. She appreciates people who appreciate her!

Ok, well, gotta run. Finally, my cold has somewhat subsided and I’m off to Spin class. Need to wake Daddy up to “parent” his daughter this morning!

Weather is bitter here right now. -27 yuck yuck yuck. Vancouver here we come!
