A small Sampling of Rohan’s Birthday

Here is a small sample of photos from Rohan’s birthday as well as a couple of random ones from the week before (him eating his yoghurt by himself, talking on the phone, and Daddy doing the finishing icing touches on the cake on Friday night. He was a lifesaver with the icing problem I was having.)

Allan and Katherine and Paul and  Amanda took most of the photos at the party but they haven’t passed them along to us yet.

March 7

Rohan’s birthday party was a success yesterday. VERY BUSY! and probably 35 people in total. Everyone showed up except for Markham and Tracey & family who had an emergency visit to Toronto. Unfortunately, I’ve been laid up with the stomach flu since 9pm last night. I haven’t left bed and I don’t have the energy to go get the camera and download photos. Tim has been with the kids all day and last night. Hopefully I’ll be better overnight or I can’t see how I’m going to function tomorrow. Rohan is Daddy’s boy right now. Doesn’t want Mommy at all.

Owen’s Party & Misc.

We attended Owen’s first birthday party on Sunday. It was a rock star theme so Owen was done up like a rock star. I forgot to dress the kids up. It was chilly walking over there in -35 but they live close so it was fine. Check out the guitar cake. I have a lot to LIVE up to with these darn cakes!

Edzea and Georgia had lots of fun. Supposedly a school yard bicker happened at Montessori between Georgia and Mackenzie earlier in the week over who was Edzea’s best friend! They all play well together now though.

There is a random pic in here of my/our (Edzea and my) first attempt to make my Mom’s famous pizza recipe. It wasn’t quite as good as Mom’s. I need to do some fine tuning obviously but it was still good enough until we perfect it. Yum! both kids love it and it’s a healthy version with light crust and whole wheat flour and CHEAP!

I’m trying to get ready for Rohan’s Teddy Bear Picnic party right now. It’s going to be a bit over the top as usual. I can’t help that I was an event coordinator in a previous life! Tim is going to freak out when he sees all of the second-hand teddies I’ve picked up around town in preparation. They will be given away through a game called Teddy Bear Hot Potato.

Rohan is a climber. He uses anything he can as a step to the next level. Tim figures we need to just teach him how to get back down as he seems to only want to get up as high as he can. I can’t leave him unsupervised for much time anymore as he now moves things to help him get up to places. He isn’t walking yet but he’s climbing. He stands on his own and walks one-handed with us but doesn’t seem to want to let go quite yet.

I have his twelve month appt on his birthday on Thursday.

He said Dada to Tim the other day. He tries to say Milk, he signs Milk, More, tries to say all of these words too so I think his communication skills will be good like Edzea’s.

Edzea is just getting more and more articulate as time passes. I can’t even give examples because it’s just everyday life now so I don’t think about it too much anymore.

Rohan is weaned! It hasn’t been a big issue. He will take a bottle kind of in the middle of the night instead of being fed but I don’t even think he needs that. He just wants a cuddle with Mommy at 2,3 or 4am. So hopefully we can cut that out soon.

The weather is chilly. Edzea played outside with Georgia on Saturday morning when we had a brief respite for half the day but they only lasted 20minutes with Tim in the yard.

So, we’ve signed the offer for Bromley with subjects slated to come off on March 9th and possession on April 20th. That will be a HUGE relief!

Other than that, we are looking forward to househunting at the end of March.

February 13th, 2011

Well, today is Mackenzie’s 3rd birthday and the last one we’ll probably join in on. It was lots of fun. It was held at the Yellowknife Gymnastics club and the kids had a ball! We lost track of Rohan at one point as someone yelled out “Rohan!” He had managed to get himself up to one of the balance beams with his hands poised to crawl on to it! We started supervising him more than Edzea at that point. Edzea is always cautious.

The big blue cubes are part of the foam pits they have at the club. You can jump in them like you would into a pool. Edzea finally got the hang of it near the end of the party and enjoyed jumping in. Her brother enjoyed the trampoline more than she did! In fact, Rohan enjoyed the entire party! He was all over the place in the room.

Tracey made an amazing unicorn cake for Mackenzie! Edzea wanted to eat the tail end for some reason which had everyone laughing. She also ate Georgia’s piece when I walked away from her for 5 minutes after telling her she couldn’t. Georgia doesn’t care about cake the same way Edzea does. I came back and Edzea was in the middle of polishing off Georgia’s piece. Stuart said, “I’m on Edzea’s side with this one, why wouldn’t she want to have her cake and Georgia’s too!”

We woke up this morning to Daddy and Edzea making banana waffles with strawberry sauce. Delicious and it seems that Edzea has somehow got Daddy doing waffles (from scratch!) every weekend now! It’s their thing.

Tomorrow we are going to Edzea’s dance class and having Dylan and Gillian over for heart-shaped french toast in the morning.

Enjoy the pics.

Rohan is Almost 1

Poor Rohan. He is almost one and I keep treating him like a baby. I was looking after Haydon today and I had playdough out for the two toddlers. Rohan wanted to see what they were doing so I finally put him up in his high chair and eventually gave him some playdough. He loved it and lasted almost 10 minutes before he gave it a little taste. So, then I made him some pudding paint…which he was welcome to eat…and which he promptly did when I wasn’t looking.  I keep treating him like a baby but he really  is turning into a little boy who wants to try to do everything Edzea is doing and he understands a lot more than I tend to give him credit for.

He was trying to one of Edzea’s tricky jigsaw puzzles in her room today. He knew what he had to do because he’s watched her do them so often but I never thought he would put it all together in his head. Sure enough he was placing the pieces on the board and getting frustrated when we were trying to get it away from him. Unfortunately, he doesn’t get much time to learn/try things on his own with me because the minute I start to play/interact with him solo…the green-eyed monster joins in! Although that goes both ways. He doesn’t like her to sit/cuddle with me either. Aahhhh. The joys of having two and trying to be fair to both!

Today was the first day that Rohan had two naps without much fuss and he completely drank his bottle without fussing and hitting it away before his afternoon nap. I finally had him in his crib for almost an hour and a half this afternoon.

He’s now in his crib all night. He gets fed once at about 2 or 3 am and then sleeps until 6/6:30 when his sister wakes him up. He was cooing/talking to himself for the first time the other morning in his crib. It was sooo nice to hear him wake up like that. Happily, in his crib.

Anyways, this is just an update for me for his baby book.

Festival of Trees & Tree Decorating

Christmas festivities officially began for us this weekend. I picked up a $10 artificial tree at the Flea Market on Friday as Edzea kept pestering me about a tree. So, when Daddy came home on Saturday afternoon, he came home to decorate! It wasn’t quite as “Norman Rockwell” as I’d imagined. Glass ball ornaments are no longer going to have a place in our “ornament box”. They need to be replaced with PLASTIC! Need I say more?

Anyways, there are a few pics of us going to the Festival of Trees event in Yellowknife. Santa was there but Edzea refused to go anywhere near him as “I don’t like Santa, I’m afreed of him. His beard.” So, we have a pic of Rohan with Santa but that’s it. There are pics of Edzea doing all of the activities at the Festival which she enjoyed so it doesn’t really matter if she won’t sit with Santa. She wouldn’t even sit on my knee on Santa’s knee this year. No bribe was big enough so we gave up.

We’re off to Maria and Yose’s for dinner tonight. The kids were going to go sledding but it’s already dark and -20 so we’re going to do indoor activities instead!
